A cloud of pollinator-friendly blooms to close out the season. Calico Aster erupts in fall with masses of tiny white flowers lined along gracefully arching stems. Each bloom features a yellow center that matures to hues of rose, purple, and bronze, creating the “calico” effect and a dynamic, ever-changing display. The short nectar tubes invite a wide diversity of small bees, flies, and wasps—providing one of the last major food sources before frost.
Ideal for woodland edges, naturalistic borders, and meadow plantings, this aster spreads gently by seed and rhizome. Its airy form and late bloom time make it a beautiful complement to earlier-blooming plants and warm-season grasses.
Why Choose Calico Aster?
Calico Aster is easy to grow and spreads gradually by seed and rhizome. Cut back in late winter or early spring. If spreading becomes too enthusiastic, divide or thin as needed to maintain balance in the garden.
