Frogfruit is a fast-spreading, ultra-resilient groundcover that thrives where others fail—hot sun, clay soil, foot traffic, and even periodic flooding. Growing just a few inches tall, it forms a dense, mat-like carpet that suppresses weeds and softens the look of pathways, parking strips, and tough-to-plant areas. From late spring through fall, Frogfruit blooms with charming clusters of tiny lavender and white flowers that draw in butterflies and native bees by the dozen.
This adaptable native is a larval host plant for the Common Buckeye, Phaon Crescent, and White Peacock butterflies. Its ecological value, turf-replacing potential, and low-growing habit make it a standout choice for sustainable landscaping, especially in warm climates.
Why Choose Frogfruit?
Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Frogfruit needs little care but may benefit from occasional trimming to encourage dense growth or prevent it from creeping into unintended areas. Tolerates mowing or edging if needed to maintain a low profile.
