    Details

American Beautyberry is an elegant native shrub that transforms from subtle to spectacular as the season progresses. Its loose, arching branches and soft green foliage set the stage for what’s to come—but by late summer and fall, the plant erupts with dense clusters of iridescent purple berries that wrap its stems in brilliant color. These vibrant fruits persist well into winter, offering ornamental interest and providing an important food source for birds and wildlife when resources are scarce.

Small pink to lavender flowers appear in summer, drawing bees and other pollinators. Growing 3–5 feet tall and wide, Beautyberry thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil, though it adapts surprisingly well to dry sites and even clay.

    Why Choose American Beautyberry?

    • Stunning fall and winter interest thanks to its signature purple berries
    • Wildlife-friendly, feeding birds when little else is available
    • Compact and versatile, fitting beautifully in borders, woodland edges, or mixed shrub plantings

    Maintenance Tips

    • Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage dense berry clusters.
    • Mulch annually to conserve soil moisture and support root health.
    • Provide moderate moisture during the first year; drought tolerance increases once established.
    • Plant two or more shrubs nearby to improve fruit set (not always required, but beneficial).
