    Details

Deergrass is a structural powerhouse in dryland landscapes, forming dense, upright clumps of narrow green leaves that fan out symmetrically like a fountain. In late summer, it sends up tall, feathery flower plumes that shimmer in silver tones and persist into winter—adding motion, texture, and year-round visual appeal. This native bunchgrass is a workhorse for erosion control, wildlife support, and design cohesion in both formal and naturalistic settings.

Highly adapted to the dry, sunny conditions of California and the Southwest, Deergrass thrives in full sun and lean soils with little to no supplemental water once established. It plays an important role in native ecosystems, providing cover and nesting material for birds and small animals, while its deep roots stabilize soil and improve infiltration. Use it as a focal point, along pathways, or in masses to anchor pollinator plantings or meadow-style gardens.

    Why Choose Deergrass?

    • Four-season interest from graceful flower plumes.
    • Thrives in dry, sunny conditions with little care.
    • Valuable for erosion control and wildlife shelter.
    • Excellent structural accent in native and mixed plantings.

Cut back to a few inches above the ground in late winter to refresh growth. Avoid overwatering once established; Deergrass prefers dry soil.
