    Details

Dotted Blazing Star brings vivid late-season color to dry, sunny landscapes with rosy-purple flower spikes that bloom when many earlier wildflowers have faded. Its feathery flowers open along upright stems above compact clumps of narrow green foliage, adding strong vertical form without overwhelming nearby plants. Like other blazing stars, it often blooms from the top of the spike downward, extending the show and keeping pollinators coming back.

Native to the prairies and plains of central and western North America, this resilient perennial is built for heat, wind, drought, and lean soils. Tiny resinous dots on the leaves give the plant its name, while an exceptionally deep root system helps established plants access moisture far below the soil surface. Butterflies, monarchs, native bees, and beneficial insects all visit the nectar-rich blooms, making this compact 1–2 foot species especially useful in prairie borders, gravel gardens, dry slopes, and low meadow plantings.

    Why Choose Dotted Blazing Star?

    • Compact blazing star for dry, sunny gardens
    • Rosy-purple flower spikes support butterflies, bees, and monarchs
    • Excellent drought tolerance once established
    • Strong vertical form without excessive height
    • Ideal for prairie borders, gravel gardens, and dry slopes

Plant in full sun with well-drained soil, and avoid rich or overly wet sites. Leave seed heads standing for winter texture, or cut back in late fall or early spring for a tidier look.
