    Details

Prairie Alumroot is a compact native perennial with heart-shaped, ruffled green leaves that form a tidy mound of foliage through the growing season. In late spring to early summer, slender flower spikes rise above the leaves, carrying small greenish blooms that may be subtle to the eye but are valuable to bees, butterflies, and other small pollinators.

Unlike many brightly colored ornamental Heuchera cultivars, Prairie Alumroot’s green, straight-species foliage offers stronger ecological value while still adding texture and polish to the garden. Its small size makes it easy to tuck along borders, in prairie-style plantings, or among sedges and shorter wildflowers where a durable, low-growing native is needed.

    Why Choose Prairie Alumroot?

    • Compact mound of attractive ruffled foliage
    • Green straight-species leaves offer strong wildlife value
    • Delicate flower spikes support bees and butterflies
    • Great for borders, prairie gardens, and mixed native beds
    • Low-growing and easy to combine with other natives

Divide every few years to maintain a full, tidy mound. Cut back old flower stalks after bloom if desired, or leave them for light structure and natural reseeding.
