    Details

Stiff Coreopsis is one of the earliest coreopsis to bloom, bringing a wave of golden yellow flowers to the summer garden. Its upright, clump-forming habit and deeply lobed, palm-shaped leaves give structure and texture, while its cheerful blooms are rich in nectar drawing in bees, butterflies, and other pollinators in droves. A reliable performer in prairie restorations and gardens alike, it thrives in dry to medium soils and full sun.

This species spreads by rhizomes but isn’t aggressive, making it ideal for filling gaps in dense plantings or creating sunny masses in open areas. Deadhead for prolonged bloom, or allow seed heads to mature for finches and other birds. Foliage may develop harmless white spots by midsummer, and floppy stems can be cut back to encourage fresh regrowth.

    Why Choose Stiff Coreopsis?

    • One of the earliest summer-blooming coreopsis
    • Pollinator magnet and seed source for birds
    • Excellent for prairie-style and low-maintenance plantings
    • Spreads gently to knit together plant communities

Deadhead to extend flowering or leave seed heads for birds. Cut back midsummer if foliage flops or looks tired. Spreads slowly—divide every few years to control massing if needed.
